Flood Insurance

< Back to Insurance

Flood insurance is coverage against property loss due to flooding from rising water from heavy rains, hurricanes, and other storms. This type of coverage is not included in most homeowner’s insurance policies, and must be purchased separately. There are different types of water damage. Contact your provider to find out which types of damage are covered by homeowner’s insurance and which types are covered by flood insurance. Please note that the Federal Emergency Management Agency(F.E.M.A) defines the flood zones and can change them at any time.

Do I need flood insurance?

Federal law requires you to purchase flood insurance if your home is located in a Special Flood Hazard Area. Because F.E.M.A. defines these areas and can change flood zones at any time, MetLife continually monitors the requirements for your location. We will contact you if your house is moved into or out of a flood zone. For your protection, you may choose to purchase flood insurance even if you are not in one of these zones or required by your lender to have flood insurance.
